Tax Manager

Finance | Belleville, Gatineau, Masson-Angers, Ontario, Québec | Permanent | Full Time

The Tax Manager will be responsible for tax matters including income, value-added, excise and withholding taxes. The Manager leads the day-to-day operations of these tax functions to meet the Company’s related accounting and compliance obligations and to minimize liabilities. The Tax Manager will provide tax planning and structure support, coordinate international aspects of consolidated income tax provision and Canadian tax reporting, and support tax efficient international expansion. The Tax Manager will be based preferably in Gatineau, QC but potentially in Montreal or Belleville, ON and will report to the Vice President of Finance.

Job Description

  • Analyze and assist with the implementation of tax planning strategies and management of existing structures
  • Coordinate and manage tax compliance, research and planning with external advisors including; income, value-added and withholding taxes
  • Prepare and review tax accruals, budgets and forecasts
  • Advise on international tax aspects of business expansion, including entering into new markets and cross-border transactions involving multiple tax jurisdictions
  • Partner with business leaders, tax, finance, treasury, legal, and external advisers on various business and tax planning matters including global funding decisions, new legal entities’ ownership structures, mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and divestments
  • Review contracts and collaborate with business leaders and legal to ensure contracts contain key terms that are consistent with global tax structure and to minimize potential tax risks to the company
  • Review commercial contracts and ensure proper tax clauses
  • Manage Canadian income tax compliance requirements, including computation of income, earnings & profits, SR&ED, and all related forms, disclosures and schedules, and related audit support
  • Review annual/quarterly estimates of earnings & profits in support of the tax provision and cash tax forecast
  • Monitor tax developments, tax reform and determine ongoing impact to the company
  • Perform tax technical research and prepare appropriate memorandums or other documentation for issues researched
  • Coordinate transfer pricing related issues, transfer pricing reports, audits, documentation, and competent authority

Qualifications

  • CPA or Master’s degree in accounting, tax or finance
  • Corporate tax, accounting or finance experience
  • Excise tax experience
  • Working knowledge of tax compliance and research systems
Candidates must be able to work from either our Gatineau, Montreal or Belleville facility and must not have a legal impediment to employment.
