Environmental, Social & Governance At HEXO

In memory of the Indigenous children whose remains continue to be discovered in unmarked graves across Canada, HEXO Corp will make a donation to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society. The Society provides cultural, physical and emotional support to residential school survivors and intergenerational survivors and their families. Additionally, the funds will enable 24/7 crisis operations during this traumatic time.

We value our connections with Indigenous communities and believe it is time to acknowledge not only our collective history but the current and lasting trauma that has been inflicted on generations of Indigenous people.

We’re working towards a better tomorrow. And this is just the beginning.

At HEXO, we believe that true leadership is about more than creating innovative brands and becoming a market-leading cannabis company. Too often, sustainability is sacrificed in the name of profitability. As a leader in Canada’s cannabis industry, we are challenging ourselves and our peers to do better – and do it now.

Reducing our environmental impact can’t wait, especially when it comes to climate change.

HEXO is committed to

Offsetting our company’s operational emissions to become 100% carbon neutral starting September 2021

Offsetting the emissions of our 1,200 employees*

Offsetting the full amount of plastic used in our pouch packaging

Our ESG Actions

Protecting Irreplaceable Resources

HEXO is proud to invest in the preservation of the Great Bear Rainforest through the offsets purchased for our company and employees.

The Great Bear Rainforest is home to the largest intact coastal temperate rainforest remaining in the world. The resources of the Great Bear Rainforest are vast and valuable to Coastal First Nations, environmental groups, forest companies and governments. Together, these groups have adopted an Ecosystem Based Management (EBM) approach, managed by the Coastal First Nations community, that values the forest not as a source of lumber alone, but as a balanced system that sustains biodiversity, protects habitat for wildlife - including the Spirit Bear which is only found within the Great Bear Rainforest - as well as an enriched community.

Through a partnership with Offsetters, HEXO is becoming carbon neutral by offsetting our operational emissions and extending our commitment to the environment beyond our business by offsetting the personal emissions of our 1,200 employees, as well!*

Saving Our Oceans

We’re also proud to announce that we are offsetting the plastic used in our pouch packaging through Plastic Bank in partnership with Dymapak, HEXO's primary packaging supplier.

Plastic Bank builds ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities and reprocesses the materials for reintroduction into the global manufacturing supply chain. Collectors receive a premium for the materials they collect to help them provide basic family necessities such as groceries, school tuition and health insurance. Through Plastic Bank, we’re not only offsetting the plastic used in our pouch packaging, we’re helping to improve lives and developing communities around the globe.

But we know that’s not enough.

We’re also working towards:
  • Finding innovative solutions to reduce or repurpose waste with a cohort of other LPs and Synergie Économique Laurentide (SEL)

  • New sustainable packaging options considering materials that are more easily recyclable or biodegradable

  • Sourcing renewable energy
  • Enabling a more virtual workforce in an effort to reduce our office footprint

  • Collaborating with our customers, partners and vendors to reduce environmental impacts across our value chain

“We have always taken our responsibility for sustainability seriously. As we’re on the verge of becoming the top Canadian LP, it’s more important than ever to take meaningful action.”

Sebastien St-Louis, CEO and co-founder, HEXO Corp

“As a mother, I worry about the state of the planet we'll be leaving for our children. I’m proud to be working for a company that cares about our planet and is leading the industry in sustainable action.”
